Tomoko Kawachi
Tomoko Kawachi (Chiba, Japan, 1974) was educated at the
Musashino Art University, Tokyo (1994-2000). She worked in 2005 and 2006 at
the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Amsterdam. In her work she explores the very
different ways in which one can see everyday utensils. She tries, as
unbiased as possible, to observe their surroundings and then she paints in a
loose style without much foresight, in large formats. Her Japanese heritage
is undeniable and her paintings are a real battleground, where elements from
different cultures collide.
